Popularity over Empathy
Everyday I face people lacking humility, and I tolerate it because it’s fine. I’m an asshole at most, but I am also a hippie. But there are times when people just catalyse the crap out of my intolerance, and I always tell myself I look forward to when I die rather than face this every single day.
Because:
- It is not cool to publicise pictures that doesn’t concern you.
- It is not cool to make entertainment out of a real life murder.
- It is not cool to compile photos of suicide attempts and put it up on Facebook because you’re such an attention whore, and the idea of having Facebook notifications matters more than your compassion and pity for human race.
- It is not cool to act as a rookie and daft media. That’s Borneo Bulletin’s job. We don’t need more of that.
Ultimately, my argument is: If that was your sister who was murdered/jumping down the building/naked, you wouldn’t want people to take hold of those photos or information. You wouldn’t want them publicised on Facebook. That is when your Facebook notifications matters the least, and it breaks my heart that it takes a real personal tragedy to happen to Bruneians in order for compassion to finally set it.
