I went to see Kick Ass last night. The movie was excellent, for sure, but what surprised me the most was that the film was rated G. What’s even more stupid is the amount of parents who brought children to watch the film.

I cannot fathom the amount of awkwardness the parents must have felt by allowing their children listen and watch to the amount of obscene languages and gore. The cinema barely even censored the sexual scenes. While I was completely okay with this since I spent my time walking around red-light districts in one period of my life, even my brothers felt uncomfortable watching the scenes, more so hearing a child talk vile languages.

While I’m not sure where I am getting at, I think Brunei needs to have a more stricter rule when it comes to censorship. People always complain about censorship in this country, but honestly, little has actually been done in regards to it. What we view as censorship only exists in our minds. For God’s sake, I was watching a film with a little girl saying ‘motherfucker’ and ‘cunt’ throughout the film. AND IT WAS RATED G.
