Here’s the weirdest “baking” mistake I’ve ever done.

It all began several months ago when my sister introduced me to chocolate-covered potato chips. I hated it, but she loved it. It is also expensive. So today*, I tried making them myself. The problem is the chocolate. I couldn’t find baking chocolate at the supermarket I was at. I contemplated going somewhere else until it occurred to me the ice-cream I’ll be buying would melt (ice-cream is not for a cooking experiment, but rather how bloody hot this country has been the past week.) I settled for a plain Cadbury milk chocolate (They didn’t sell dark chocolate. What the what!)

Problem is when I melted the chocolate three times, it turned flakey instead of looking like pudding, but still somewhat melted. So lesson learned: don’t heat it three times. Once—for a minute—was actually enough. (Or use chocolate that would melt properly. Say, I don’t know, BAKING CHOCOLATE?) Or, you know, keep melting it.

After a lot of fun with the chips and chocolate (and me risking looking like how I ate when I was seven years old), voilà! You might think it’s gross, but it turned out quite well. It’s a mixture of sweet and salty. Oh! One of life’s conundrum! How splendid!

* Yeah, yeah, two baking adventures in two days. I start work next week. I need to retain my… uh, dignity, somehow

Vivie and I made black bottom cupcakes this afternoon (although we decided to call it black butt cupcakes). It’s a very tricky recipe, since the only rising agent is the filling (white part). So, our baking war involved a lot of estimation on how much black bottom we should put in. It tastes very healthy since we cut down the brown sugar, didn’t use any icing (HOORAY!) and used dark chocolate as oppose to milk chocolate!
